A blank is a material or solution which does not contain the targeted analytes of interest. Most spectroscopy blanks are an aqueous solution free from elemental targets which may contain a small amount of a compatible acid such as nitric acid or hydrochloric acid. Spex ICP matrix blanks assure the analyst an analyte free solution to calibrate and calculate their ICP without interference from common ICP background contaminants.
