The USEPA method 508A is an analytical method that utilizes a methylene chloride extraction of drinking and raw source water, concentrated to 5-mL (in hexane) after derivitization with SbCl5 and a gas chromatograph equipped with a packed or capillarycolumn to perform the separation of the resultant decachlorobiphenyl. To detect the GC eluant, an electron capture detector (ECD) is used.
